Located approximately 22 kilometers from the main town of the area (Longsheng Town), the Longji Rice Terraces were originally constructed during the Yuan Dynasty (1271 – 1368) and completed during the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1913). It is situated on the Longji Mountain.
The area is composed of the following Terraces:
- Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces;
- The Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces; and
- The Jinkeng Rice Terraces.
Compared to the views in Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces, those in Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces and the Jinkeng Rice Terraces are more gorgeous but Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces are quieter.

Longji Rice Terraces (by season)
In different seasons, the Longji Rice Terraces features different appearances. It is surrounded by mountains. Trees there are evergreen around the year. Some of the different seasons per month include the following:
- In April, the terraces are filled with water. They look like mirrors inset in the mountain.
- In January, they can sometimes be covered with snow & frost
- From mid May to early September, rice seedlings grow in the terraces. The terraces are like green ribbons.
- Between early September to early October, rice is getting more and more golden.
Views in the Longji Rice Terraces during the September through until early October are acclaimed as the most stunning but the Rice Terraces offers different scenic views throughout the year.

There are several viewpoints in the Longji Rice Terraces. You could take a cable car to the Viewpoint of Golden Buddha Peak to enjoy the sunset from Dazhai Village CarPark. The viewpoint offers the bird’s eye view of Jinkeng Rice Terraces. On fine days, you will be amazed at the stunning sunset. The Viewpoint of Music from Paradise in Jinkeng Rice Terraces features gorgeous sunrise.
If you enjoy hiking, you could also hike to Tiantouzhai Village and Dazhai Village to explore the Jinkeng Rice Terraces. At Ping’an Village, the main scenic viewpoints are the ‘Seven Stars with the Moon’ Viewpoint and the Nine Dragons & Five Tigers Viewpoint, of which both offer spectacular panoramic views overlooking the terraces.

In addition, the Longji Rice Terraces is home to several ethnic minorities for hundreds of years, including Zhuang, Yao, and Huangluoyao people. All of the buildings around the area are with high feet. Compared to other villages in the area, Longji Zhuang Village is the least developed one. Thus, you could experience the authentic Zhuang customs at the village. Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces is the most developed area in Longji. Jinkeng Rice Terraces is home to Red Yao Ethnic Minority. Buildings there feature high hanging feet as well. Female villagers there keep long hair for hundreds of years.
