Emin Minaret ​- the largest existing ancient pagoda in Xinjiang

Originally built in 1778, Emin Minaret stands at Munnar Village, 2 km east of Turpan. It was built under the leadership of the then Turpan’s Duke – Eein Hoja to repay the central government of the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) for the grace and to express his sincerity towards the God.

What to expect at Emin Minaret

With a height of 44 meters, Emin Minaret is built with grayish yellow bricks. Except window lattice, the other parts of the building are not built in wood. The base is 10 meters in diameter. The tower body in a shape of circular cone is large at the bottom and small on the top. With a strong Islamic architectural style, the façade features 15 types of patterns, such as triangles, four-petal patterns, water ripple and diamond pattern. At the entrance, you will find two stone steles. One is in Chinese and the other one is in Uighur. Both of the steles tell the reason why the pagoda was built. Visitors are not allowed to climb to the top of the pagoda.

 

Mosque of Emin Minaret – the largest mosque in Turpan stands very close to the pagoda. The hall can accommodate more than 1,000 believers to worship at one time. The mosque features a vaulted dome. Best time to visit Emin Minaret

It is suggested that you visit the Emin Minaret in the afternoon as the entrance to the pagoda is included in the combo ticket for Grape Valley, Ancient City of Jiaohe, and karez system. The combo ticket is valid in 48 hours (If you buy the ticket at 10:00am on Wednesday 19th December 2018, the ticket is valid by 10:00am on Friday 20th December 2018).

 

The best months to visit are from April to July and from September to October.

 

How to get to Emin Minaret

There is only 1 bus passing by the pagoda. Therefore, there are only a few options.

  • Rent a vehicle to the pagoda. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus 1 to the Stop of Dazhai Road (大寨路站). Then, take a 20-minutes walk.

  • Opening hours: 08:00 – 21:00 (April 21 – October 20); 10:00 – 18:30 (October 21 – April 20)
  • As the entrance ticket is included in several combo tickets, the pricing for combo tickets is different.
  • As at 17th October 2020, the combo ticket for Grape Valley, Ancient City of Jiaohe, Ancient Village of Jiaohe, Emin Minaret and karez system is 290 CNY per person.
  • The combo ticket for Grape Valley, Ancient City of Gaochang, Flaming Mountains, Emin Minaret, Duke Office and karez system is 275 CNY per person.
  • The combo ticket for Grape Valley, Ancient City of Gaochang, Emin Minaret, Duke Office and karez system is 235 CNY per person.
  • The combo ticket for Grape Valley, Tuyuq Valley, Bezeklik Caves, Emin Minaret, Duke Office and karez system is 235 CNY per person.
  • The combo ticket for Grape Valley, Ancient City of Jiaohe, Emin Minaret, Duke Office and karez system is 235 CNY per person.
  • The combo ticket for Grape Valley, Ancient City of Jiaohe (including the shuttle bus), Ancient Village of Jiaohe, Emin Minaret, Flaming Mountains and Karez System is 320 CNY per person.
