What to expect at Dreaming of the Tiger SpringThe name of Dreaming of the Tiger Spring comes from a legend. It says that in 819 Monk Huangzhong, also known as Yikong arrived here and was so appealed by the beautiful landscape that he lived here. Later on, as there was no water resource nearby, he was planning to move to another place. One night, he dreamed that a man told him that there had a special spring in Mount Heng. The sacred spring would send two tigers to the place. On the second day, he saw tigers digging earth. Surprisingly, clear spring poured out. Two stone lifelike tigers with the statue of the sleeping monk present the story.
Dreaming of the Tiger Spring has a wall carved with the Chinese characters of “虎跑泉”. The characters were made by Tan Daoyi, a calligrapher in the Xi Shu Dynasty (405 - 413). The pond under the spring is surrounded by stone railings. Jigong Hall is to worship the Monk Jigong (1148 - 1209). The stone carvings tell the story of the monk. Beside the tea house is the pagoda where the relics of the monk is located in. At the Arhat Hall, you’ll find the fine statues of Arhats. If you are interested in the Chinese tea, it is suggested that you try one or two cups of tea at Diecuixuan Tea House. |

How to get to the Dreaming of the Tiger Spring
Just a few buses pass by the spring. Thus, there are only a few options.
- Rent a vehicle to the park. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus K4, 538 or Bus K599 to the Stop of Hupao (虎跑站). Then walk to the park.
