Located on Zhongshan Scenic Area, Dr Sun Yat-Sen’s Mausoleum lies east of Linggu Temple and west of Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum. All the buildings there stand on the mountain. They layout features a shape of the alarm bell.

What to expect at Dr Sun Yat Sen’s Mausoleum
The memorial archway of Dr Sun Yat-Sen’s Mausoleum features a strong traditional Chinese style. It has a blue glazed roof, four pillars. You’ll find good patterns of the archway, including clouds and lotus petals. Pass the archway and you’ll walk on the passage leading to the tomb. With 392 steps, it is some 400 meters long and 73 meters tall. There are 8 platforms along the steps. On the fifth one are two large Dings, an ancient cooking vessels. You’ll find cannon shot on one of them left during the Anti-Japanese War (1931 – 1945).

On the ending point of the passage is the granite gate of the tomb which is situated in the middle of the axis. The roof is decorated with blue glazed tiles. The large platform can accommodate more than 10,000 persons. You’ll see patterns on the gate as well.
The pavilion of the tombstone is located on the second platform behind the gate. With a height of 9 meters, the tombstone weighs more than 10 tons.
Located on the highest peak, the altar, the main building in Dr Sun Yat-Sen’s Mausoleum is a palace-like structure with three archways and blue glazed roofs. The facade is entirely built in Hong Kong granite. In the middle of the altar is the sitting statue of Dr Sun Yat-Sen by the world famous sculptor Paul Luntsky. With 6 reliefs on the base, it is 4.6 meters tall. The circular tomb chamber is located in the altar. The coffin pit is situated in the middle of the chamber. On the coffin lies the statue of Dr Sun Yat-Sen. As at 21st December 2019, the tomb chamber is closed to the public.

Best time to visit Dr Sun Yat Sen’s Mausoleum
The best time to visit the mausoleum is in the morning.
The best months to visit are from April to October.
How to get to Dr Sun Yat Sen’s Mausoleum
You can take Bus 34 or rent a vehicle to the CarPark of Dr Sun Yat-Sen’s Mausoleum (中山陵停车场站) and then transfer to the shuttle bus to the mausoleum.
Additional Dr Sun Yat Sen’s Mausoleum Travel Advice
- Opening hours: 08:30 – 17:00 (Tuesday – Sunday). It is closed on Mondays.
- As at 15th October 2020, tourists can visit it for free.
- Please book the free entrance ticket through WeChat Official Account of “中山风景区” on WeChat or on www.zschina.org.cn beforehand.
- Please present your passport with the OR code of the booking at the ticket office.
- From Tuesday to Friday, up to 18,000 persons per day are permitted to visit it while at weekends and holidays the largest number of visitors us 30,000 per day.
