Covering an area of 2,346 square kilometers, Dong Van Plateau is composed of Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac. The highlights there are the Vietnamese ethnic minorities villages, mountain passes, limestone peaks, winding mountain roads, etc.

What to expect at Dong Van Plateau

Dong Van Plateau is home to paleontological fossils formed 4 million to 6 million years ago. At present, according to preliminary statistics of scientists, there are 45 landforms relics and 33 structural monuments. Among them, 26 species were first discovered and named in the world, and many geological relics have been listed as the national-level and international-level relics.

 

With an average elevation of 1,000 – 1,600 meters above the sea level, Dong Van Plateau is also decorated with winding roads including QL4C and several secondary roads, which make for great views to enjoy on the mountain. Some sections of the roads are a little damaged. Some lie with a steep cliff on one side.

 

Quan Ba Heaven Gate on the plateau offers a bird’s eye view of the Tam Son Town in a silent valley and the Fairy Mountain in the distance. Ma Pi Leng Pass is endowed with stunning natural views as well. Hmong King Palace, a great choice to those who love visiting places of interest is also set in the region. Visitors can explore the Vietnamese ethnic minorities villages and experience the local market on the specific days. If you want to get more acquainted with locals, it is recommended that you try to enjoy homestaying there.

Best time to visit the Dong Van Plateau

You could visit the plateau in the daytime.

As there may be landslides on the plateau, it is suggested that you explore it in the dry season (autumn and winter). If you are planning to visit it in another months, please check through the weather in advance.

 

How to get to the Dong Van Plateau 

The best option to get to Dong Van Plateau is to rent a motorcycle if you have an international license. If not, you could take a local bus to it from Ha Giang City. However, the buses are limited. If you don’t get an international motorcycle driver license, the only option is to rent a vehicle from Ha Giang.
