1. Yangshuo Location (Where is Yangshuo?)
Yangshuo is a picturesque town located approximately 85 kilometers South of Guilin City in Guangxi Province, Southern China. It’s a rural town but in recent years has developed with numerous hotels and tourism related services being implemented within the area.
As part of the larger Guilin area, the entire region is known worldwide as a tourism destination among domestic and international visitors. In terms of its location, it’s situated between E 109°36′ to 111°29′ and N 24°15′ to 26°23′ and is located between the Hunan-Guangxi Corridor (湘桂走廊). The average altitude in Guilin and Yangshuo is 150 meters . In the north and northeast, Hunan Province is located, further South-West is Liuzhou City (柳州地区) and to the South & South-East are the cities of Wuzhou(梧州) and Hezhou(贺州).
2. Getting to and from Yangshuo
Flights to Guilin (International)
With the recent expansion of Guilin Liangjiang Airport (in 2018), the city of Guilin and town of Yangshuo are now more accessible than ever for internationl visitors. With links to a number of destinations in East and South-East Asia, some of the direct routes including Seoul, Busan, Jeju Island, Bankok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Singorpore.
Flights to Guilin (Domestic)
Guilin Liangjiang International Airport (桂林两江国际机场) offers numerous direct flights to various domestic cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Harbin, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu, Wuhan, Changsha, Tianjin and many more.
From Guilin Airport to Yangshuo, it takes approximately 70 – 90 minutes via highway and there are multiple buses, taxes and private transfers available upon arrival or can be booked in advance.

3. Yangshuo Attractions
If you are a keen photographer, Xianggong Hill, Cuiping Hill and Laozhai Mountain are the top 3 attractions to you. Compared to the other hills, Xianggong Hill is the most accessible and it just requires 10 to 15 minutes walk up to the top. On sunny days, you will take pictures of the amazing sunrise from the hill and enjoy the bird’s eye view of the Li River.
Cuiping Hill is a great hill for appreciating the sunset. With the green hills around and the farmland at the foot, Cuiping Hill offers gorgeous views for photography purposes. The views at the bottom of the hill change with the different seasons as local villagers plant different types of vegetables in the farmland.

Laozhai Mountain is a large mountain located in Xingping Town (approximately 40 x minutes’ drive from Yangshuo) on the ‘bend of the Li River’. It’s also the most difficult hill to climb up but it offers incredible views for sunrise as well as the sunset. The road on the mountain is the steepest among the three hills. It is not suggested to explore the hill on rainy days or in the darkness in case of any danger.
In addition, it is not recommended that the elderly or the children climb the hill either for safety precautions. If you would like to experience local culture, you could enjoy Impression 3rd Sister Liu Show on the 2-kilometers-long Li River with the background of 12 karst hills. What’s more, you could watch cormorant fishing demonstration on the section of the Li River in Xingping during the sunset.

Yulong River Valley has various types of things to do. If you want to get a different experience from the Li River Cruise on a big boat, you could enjoy bamboo rafting on the river. Locals use a bamboo pole to run the raft. If you love to keep much closer to the nature, you can enjoy cycling or hiking in the area. Along the way, you may find something new and exciting. The valley offers an old bridge – Fuli Old Bridge and an old village – Jiuxian Village to explore too. If you get a little tired after a long journey, the West Street is a perfect place to you to relax. You could just wander around the street for window shopping, and refresh yourself with desserts, café or other drinks at one of the Western restaurants. 5. Yangshuo Travel Information
5.1 Best Time to Travel to Yangshuo
The best time to travel to Yangshuo is between the middle of April until early November. This is typically the most popular time of year to visit. With a low latitude, Yangshuo located in a subtropical monsoon climate area. Climatic conditions in Yangshuo are favorable with a mild climate, substantial rainfall, sunlight, rich heat, a long summer and short winter across the four seasons.
The annual average temperature in Yangshuo is 18.9℃. August is the hottest with the monthly average temperature of 23℃. January is the coldest with the monthly average temperature of 15.6℃.
The annual frost-free period is 309 days and the annual average rainfall is 1949.5 mm of rain. The Labour Day-May 1st and the National Day of China-October 1st, are the 2 x golden weeks for tourism between the middle of April and the early November. These two weeks with comfortable climate are the peak season for travelling in Yangshuo, even around China as a whole. Summer holidays are also very popular among visitors.
Combined with the holiday, tens of thousands of tourists always visit Guilin during this period of time. As a result, hotel prices often increase (substantially) and visitors can expect some traffic jams. It is suggested that you should not pay a visit to Guilin during the two weeks. Wendy Wei Tours recommends visitors to travel to Guilin during quieter times throughout this period.
The rainy season in Guilin is from April to July. If you would like to appreciate Li River scenery in smog and the terraced fields with enough water, it is recommended that you visit Guilin between the middle of April and June.

6.2 Yangshuo Visa Requirements
A China tourism visa is issued to those who choose to go to China for touring, sightseeing or visiting friends. It is usually issued for up to 30/60 days stay per visit and multiple entry visas can be valid for up to 10 years (USA, Canadian and Argentinian Passport Holders). Usually, these allow up to 30 days stay per visit but only for single or double entry valid for 3 or 6 months for non-US passport holders. 10 years visa is not guaranteed either as it’s at the discretion of the consulate.
The Chinese Consulate may issue the applicant a visa with reduced number of entries, shorter duration and validity at their discretion. There are also transit visas and visa-free options but please consult your local Chinese consulate or visa service agency to assist.

6.3 Yangshuo Safety
Yangshuo is a very safe town. Wendy Wei Tours advises people to be aware of their surroundings and take normal precautions when traveling to Yangshuo.
