What to expect at Dali Yan's Compound
Dali Yan’s Compound offers wooden carvings, stone carvings, and clay sculptures made in the traditional techniques to present the Bai feature and style. In the middle of the screen wall is embedded marble landscape. Scenes of four main types of occupation – fishing, woodcutting, farming and engaging in politics are carved around the landscape, which show the braveness and industrious nature of the Bai people. The marble gate of the compound is carved with Qilin, elephants and the beast with a human face which are considered auspicious signs in the Bai’s culture. You won’t find two same wooden carvings in the compound. The carvings were made in different carving methods as well.
A western modern villa stands in the rear courtyard. You will find a basement, balconies, corridors and ceiling glass windows in the villa. You will find a pine tree in a shape of the Chinese character of “寿” in the compound. The pile of copper coins, studies, rooms, the Beauty Window and the horizontal inscribed boards are worth exploring too. The compound also offers Bai’s shows, such as Three Course Tea (San Dao Cha) and other shows demonstrating Bai customs and traditions.
