Originally built in 1986, Dali Museum (Dali State Museum) covers an area of 3.33 hectares. It is located at No. 33, South Erhai Road, Dali. It offers an exhibition area of 4,600 square meters. The building is typical of Bai building. At the museum, you will get acquainted with the history and culture of Nanzhao Kingdom (738 - 902) and Dali Kingdom (937 – 1094 and 1096 - 1253) and the customs of Bai people through exquisite exhibits.

What to expect at Dali Museum (Dali State Museum)
With a collection of more than 7,000 pieces, Dali Museum (Dali State Museum) offers 12 galleries to visit. At the Historical and Cultural Hall of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms, you will know general history of the two kingdoms through some pictures, pottery and old sculptures. The three halls of Buddhist Art in the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms offer stone and metallic sculptures of Buddha to explore.
At the Hall of Bronze Culture, you will be shocked at the bronze drum, chimes, and bronze axes made in the Warring State Period (475 BC – 221 BC). The exhibits at the hall reflect the social life of locals in the Warring State Period in Dali. The Hall of Bai’s Culture will let you see handmade Bai costumes, the development of the costumes, old furniture, the layout of Bai’s building, old utensil, means of production and old musical instruments of Bai people.
The Hall of Ceramics is a combination of green glazed porcelain and blue and white porcelain from the Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368) through the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) to the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912). At the Hall of Marble Culture, you will see a variety of marble exhibits and be amazed at the power of the nature. The marbles are endowed with the natural stunning patterns. If you are interested in the Chinese paintings and calligraphy, the works at the Paintings and Calligraphy Hall will be a feast for your eyes and soul.

You could take the Express of Three Pagodas (三塔专线) to the South Stop of Xingsheng Bridge (兴盛大桥南站) and then walk to the museum or just rent a vehicle to the museum.

- Opening hours: 09:00 – 17:00 (Tuesday - Sunday). It is closed on Monday. The tickets are not issued from 16:20 pm.
- As at 20th October 2020, the entrance pricing to the museum is free of charge.
- Please present your passport at the ticket office to get the entrance ticket.
- Please keep quiet at the museum.
