Cuc Phuong National Park - Vietnam's largest nature reserve

Set in the limestone hills area, Cuc Phuong National Park covers an area of 250 square kilometers. It is home to around 2000 species of plants many of which are rare and precious. In addition, there are more than 500 types of animals and 1,400 types of insects in the park.

What to expect at Cuc Phuong National Park
As the first national park in Vietnam, Cuc Phuong National Park is famous for its colorful butterflies. It is decorated with evergreen trees. It offers 460 species of trees. Among them, you’ll find mastic trees with a height of more than 70 meters and even an old Cranberry tree which is more than 1,000 years old.
The crown of some old trees has an area of 200 - 300 square meters. When you stand under it, you may feel you faced a big castle. In addition, there are long, big and solid vines hanging down to the ground. If you are interested, you could make a hammock with them to take a break. There are hot springs with 37-centigrade-degree water. In addition, there are a few caves which can dates back to more than 10,000 years ago. Some signs in the caves have indicated that human beings lived there.
The waterhole there are so deep that the depth can’t be measured. It spreads among locals that one bull felt into one hole but they couldn’t find it in the whole but find the bull in anther bull. In the rainy season, the saltwater fish can be found in the holes. Therefore, it is estimated that there may be an underground sea under the park.
Every April and May, the park is always dotted with thousands of colorful butterflies, which is one of the highlights there. During the period of time, you may feel that you are in a butterfly paradise in the park. They may stand on your shoulder, head or just fly around you.

The best time to visit the park is in the morning.
The best months to visit are from March to November. If you visit the park for photography purposes, the best months to visit are April and May.

How to get to Cuc Phuong National Park
Unfortunately, there is no direct bus to the park from Ninh Binh or Hanoi. Thus, the only option is to rent a vehicle to the park.
