Situated Near No. 31, Er Tan Street, Shizhongyue District, Leshan, Confucian Temple has a history of more than 500 years. Visitors can explore the old buildings and Confucianism materials in the temple.

What to expect at the Confucian Temple
Said to be originally built between 618 and 626, Confucian Temple was originally located on the Yuxian Dam (育贤坝) opposite Leshan Big Buddha. Due to the flood and other reasons, the temple had experienced 3 relocations in the Song (960 - 1279), Yuan (1271 - 1368) and Ming (1368 - 1644) Dynasties. Finally, it was moved to the foot of the Laoxiaoding Mountain in 1464.
With a building area of 3,136.97 square meters, the existing temple is composed of 15 buildings, such as the room for deacons, Panchi Pond (泮池), Lingxing Gate (棂星门), Shengyu (圣域), Famed Officials Temple (名宦祠), the Temple for Elites (乡贤祠), Dacheng Hall (大成殿), and the changing room. |
Best time to visit the Confucian Temple
As the Confucian Temple is under the administration of Leshan No. 2 Middle School, the best time to visit the temple is after school during their school days.
How to get to the Confucian Temple
There are only 2 buses to Confucian Temple in Leshan. Therefore, there are only a few options.
- Rent a vehicle to the temple from Chengdu or Leshan. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 22 and Bus 12 in Leshan.
