What to expect at City God PavilionThe 41.6-meters-tall City God Pavilion is a antique loft-style structure. It is a fusion of styles in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127 - 1279) and Yuan (1271 - 1368) Dynasties. As at 17th December 2019, visitors are just permitted to admire the amazing views on the second or third floor in the building as the fourth to the sixth floors are being renovated. You can take a lift or walk on the stairs to the floor. Exhibits and pictures on the ground and the first floors introduce the local history, culture and customs. On the ground floor, you’ll see exquisite wooden carving. Three-dimensional hardwood painted mural on the first floor tells the local life in the Southern Song Dynasty, including the wedding, and the Lantern Festival and many walks of life in Hangzhou. You can have a rest at the tea house on the second and enjoy the show on the fourth floor. The third floor is the best viewpoint.
At the entrance to the Wushan Tianfeng Scenic Area is a large-scale granite relief "Wu Shan Customs". It is 27 meters long and 6 meters high. With the background in the Southern Song Dynasty, it presents the bustling scenes of the festivals held at the City God Temple and temple fairs held at Wushan Mountain at that time. It is also worth visiting the City God Temple in the Wushan Tianfeng Scenic Area. The statue of Zhou Xin, the Judicial Commissioner of Zhejiang between 1403 - 1424, acclaimed as the City God, is worshiped there. The six pictures in the temple introduce his official life. Chenghuangpailou Alley at the foot of the mountain is home to many local restaurants and snacks shops. If interested, you can have a try at the alley and experience the local life there. |
