Chuanshan Park ​- karst mountain with ‘tunnel’ through the middle of it in Guilin

Covering an area of around 2 square kilometers, Chuanshan Park is located around 5 kilometers from the city center. Chuanshan means a hill with a hole in the hillside. The park is well-known for the reflection of the Tower Hill in the Xiaodongjiang River and the sunset.

What to expect at Chuanshan Park

Chuanshan Park offers the Chuanshan Hill, Tower Hill, Chuanshan Cave, Moon Cave and a stone stlele to explore.

 

Formed 340,000 years ago, Chuanshan Cave is 1,531 meters long. The main cave is 348 meters long. The highest spot is 30 meters tall while the widest point is 30 meters wide. There are 25 scenic spots in the cave, such as Swan Bay, Heart-to-Heart Stone Shield, Dragon Scale Wall, Hollow Stone and Sword, etc. At the Swan Bay, you’ll see pillar-shaped stalactites which grow from the top of the cave down. Some stalactites are like petals, villus and so on.

 

Also called Kongming Hole, Moon Cave lies in the western hillside of Chuanshan Hill. It is 9 meters tall. There are several stone carvings in the Song (960 – 1279) and Ming Dynasties and hanging stones in the cave.

 

The Tower Hill is the most popular highlight in the park. An old tower originally built in the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644) stands on the top. It is a 8-layer structure. The reflection of the hill in the Xiaodongjiang River and the sunset make for stunning views.

Best time to visit Chuanshan Park

If you’d like to visit the park for photography purposes, the best time to visit is at sunset.

The best months to visit are from April to October.

 

How to get to Chuanshan Park

There is just Bus 214 passing by the park. You could take it or rent a vehicle to the park.

  • Opening hours: 07:30 – 18:00 (April – October); 08:00 – 17:30 (November – March)
  • As at 2nd October 2020, the entrance pricing to the park (including the Chuanshan Cave) is 65 CNY per person; children between 1.2m tall (1.2m tall included) and 1.4m tall (1.4m tall not included) are charged 35 CNY per person; children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) are free of charge.
