What is Chishui Scenic Area?
Located 210 kilometers southwest of Chongqing and 20 kilometers from Chishui City, Chishui Scenic Area is composed of the three major sections of Chishui Great Waterfall, Buddha Light Rock, and Swallow Rock.
It features Danxia landform, waterfalls, bamboo forests, spinulose tree ferns, and virgin forests.

What to expect at Chishui Scenic AreaChishui Scenic Area is made of Chishui Great Waterfall, Buddha Light Rock, and Swallow Rock. Buddha Light Rock is arc-shaped, with an arc length of 1,117 meters and a height of 385 meters. There is a columnar waterfall with a height of 269 meters and a width of 42 meters in the middle of the Buddha's rock. It looks like a small white dragon flying under the clouds.
The area offers many rapid waterfalls and deep river valleys, forming the largest Danxia Waterfall landscape group in China.It features the most stunning Danxia waterfalls across China. Chishui Great Waterfall is 76.2 meters high and 81 meters wide. Swallow Rock is home to nearly one thousand swallows. In addition, a lot of ancient vegetation and 2,359 species of animals and plants and other rare and endangered flora and fauna in Chishui Scenic Area. Best time to visit Chishui Scenic Area
The best time to visit Chishui Scenic Area is from April to November. It is the best amazing period from June to August. At that period, the water of the Chishui Great Waterfall is big enough. It is an ideal summer resort.
How to get to Chishui Scenic Area
The transportation network around Guizhou is being improved. Therefore, there are a few options as follows:
- Rent a vehicle from Chongqing, Zunyi, Luzhou or Chishui City to Chishui Scenic Area. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take a bus from Chongqing, Guiyang, Zunyi, Tongzi and Tongren to Chishui City. Then, rent a vehicle to Chishui Scenic Area.
- Take a bus from Chongqing, Guiyang, Zunyi, Tongzi and Tongren to Chishui City. Then, take the shuttle bus from Chishui Zhuluoji Hotel to Chishui Tourists Center. Transfer to the shuttle bus from Chishui Tourists Center to Buddha Light Rock or Chishui Great Waterfall. Please note, the shuttle bus is free of charge when visitors get the tickets for Buddha Light Rock or Chishui Great Waterfall (For example, when visitors get the tickets for Buddha Light Rock, they can take the shuttle bus from Chishui Zhuluoji Hotel to Chishui Tourists Center for free and transfer to the shuttle bus from Chishui Tourists Center to Buddha Light Rock for free as well with the tickets. Please remember to take the tickets with you all the way).
Additional Chishui Scenic Area Travel Advice
- Buddha Light Rock, Chishui Great Waterfall and Swallow Rock is in the different parts of Chishui Scenic Area. Visitors can get the separate ticket for each of them or get the pass ticket for the three attractions.
- As at 5th October 2020, the entrance pricing for the pass ticket is 180 CNY per person.
- The entrance pricing for the Buddha Light Rock is 90 CNY per person; the entrance pricing for the elder between 60 years old (60 years old included) and 69 years old (69 years old included) is 45 CNY per person.
- Tthe entrance pricing for the Great Waterfall is 90 CNY per person; the entrance pricing for the elder between 60 years old (60 years old included) and 69 years old (69 years old included) is 45 CNY per person.
- The entrance pricing for the Swallow Rock is 60 CNY per person; the entrance pricing for the elder between 60 years old (60 years old included) and 69 years old (69 years old included) is 30 CNY per person.
- Children under 1.4m (1.4m included) and the elder above 70 years old (70 years old included) are free of charge.
- In the area of Great waterfall, the admission fee for one-way shuttle bus is 10 CNY per person and the admission fee for round-trip shuttle bus is 20 CNY per person; the admission fee for one-way escalator is 20 CNY per person and the admission fee for round-trip escalator is 40 CNY per person.
- In the area of Buddha Light Rock, the admission fee for one-way shuttle bus is 15 CNY per person and the admission fee for round-trip shuttle bus is 25 CNY per person.
- From December to February, opening time for Great Waterfall is 09:00 - 15:00; opening time for Swallow Rock is 08:00 - 16:30; opening time for Buddha Light Rock is 08:00 - 16:30.
- From March to November, opening time for Great Waterfall is 08:00 - 17:00; opening time for Swallow Rock is 08:00 - 17:00; opening time for Buddha Light Rock is 08:00 - 17:00.
