UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Chengdu
Chengdu is an old historical and cultural city. It is dotted with tens of historical and cultural spots. It offers two UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites and one UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.

Originally built between 256 BC and 251 BC, Dujiangyan Irrigation System is the oldest of its kind around the world. Consisting of the Fish-mouth of Dividing Water, Flying Sand Weird and the Bottleneck, the system was declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in November 2000.
The location is reasonable while the design is scientific. Since 1936, the modern technology has been gradually used to repair and reinforce the head-work, and some water conservancy facilities have been added. However, the original layout remains unchanged. The system has served locals for long and will play a significant role in the future.
Qingcheng Mountain with Dujiangyan Irrigation System was listed into the list of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage on one day in November, 2000. It is composed of the front and the back mountains. It is one of the Taoist birthplaces in China.
The mountain is home to evergreen trees. It has more than 10 old Taoist buildings on the mountain. In addition, it is a great summer resort in Chengdu. At the east foot of the mountain is Mang City Site in late Neolithic Age. The excavated objects at the site play an important part in researching the civilization of the Ancient Shu Kingdom (1045 BC - 316 BC).
Giant Panda's Habitat in Sichuan Province
As the largest and most complete habitat to giant pandas in the world with rich plant and vegetation, the Giant Panda’s Habitat in Sichuan was declared the UNESCO World Natural Heritage in July, 2000. It is composed of 7 nature reserves and 9 scenic areas in Sichuan.
Among them, the part of Heishui River Nature Reserve and Xiling Snow Mountain Scenic Area in Dayi County, Jiguan Mountain and Jiulonggou Scenic Area and Chengdu and Qingcheng Mountain - Dujiangyan Scenic Area in Chengdu Region are home to giant panda’s habitats in Sichuan. Giant pandas in all of the areas will enjoy a good living environment.
