Chengdu is becoming more and more popular around China and even the world. The civilization of the Ancient Shu Kingdom (1045 BC – 360 BC) left its trace in Chengdu. Chengdu is also one of the main 10 old capitals in ancient China. Here are some useful travel tips for your Chengdu visit.​

Things to Bring to Chengdu
The necessary things to bring to Chengdu around the year are umbrellas, and sunglasses. If you would like to visit it during the winter, please take enough warm clothes to prevent yourself from the coldness.

What to Wear in Chengdu
In spring, you could wear a sweater plus a thin coat. In summer, it is recommended that you bring enough shorts, T-shirts, and skirts to get changed as it is hot in Chengdu. In autumn, you could wear shirts, knitwear and trousers. In winter, please wear sweater, cotton-padded clothes or down jackets in Chengdu

Train Ticket Booking Advice
If you would like to experience the high-speed train to Chengdu from the nearby cities in China, it is suggested that you book the train ticket as early as possible. At earliest, you could book it 30 days prior to the travel date. Trip.com offers the booking service for the train tickets to foreigners.

China Visa Advice
Since the 144-hour visa-free transit policy was carried out on January 1, 2019 in Chengdu, air passengers who are the passport holders from the following 53 countries are permitted to stay in Chengdu for up to 144 hours (6 days) without a visa.

6 x American Countries:
USA, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile

2 x Oceania Countries:
Australia, and New Zealand

6 Asian Countries:
United Arab Emirates, Japan, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, and Brunei


To those who have strong interest in archaeology and ancient culture, Jinsha Archaeological Site is a must-visit spot. How To Get To Chengdu
Chengdu offers several means of transportation from the main cities across China. Let’s see how we can get to Chengdu.

Getting to Chengdu by Air (Flights to Chengdu)
If you fly to Chengdu from the areas outside Mainland China, you could take a direct flight from San Francisco, Tokyo, Taipei, Moscow, Nha Trang, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bali, Koh Samui, Sihanoukville, Siem Reap, Tel Aviv, Paris, Seoul, New York, Abu Dhabi, and so on. If you are already in Mainland China, there are many more direct flights taking you to Chengdu, including Guilin, Shanghai, Xiamen, Beijing, Hangzhou, Xi’an, Shenzhen, Xining, Guiyang, Guangzhou, Nanning, Kunming, Nanjing, Qingdao, Dalin, Urumqi, etc.

Getting to Chengdu by Land (Trains to Chengdu)
Taking a train to Chengdu is another option in Mainland China. Except the normal train from Northwest China to Chengdu, You could take a high-speed train from many of the main tourist cities around China.

VPN Advice
Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, Google and Whatsapp and other social media (as well as websites) are blocked in China. If you would like to keep in touch with your families and friends during your stay in Mainland China, it is strongly recommended that you set up a paid VPN on your cellphone, ipad and laptop in case the free VPN doesn’t work in Mainland China.

Money Advice
With Visa and Mastercard debit cards, you are able to withdraw money on most of the ATMs in Chengdu. It is suggested that you let your your banks know that you will be using your cards in China before your departure. The amount of the money you could withdraw in China in 1 day may be different in different cities based on the types of your cards.

Phones
If your cell phone service offers the international service in China, it will be convenient to use your own phone number during your stay in China. If not, you could get a local SIM card to contact your travel agencies and your hotels in Mainland China. The lowest pricing of the card is 50 CNY on. If you would like to get the international service, please advise the staff of the local phone service beforehand.
