Canglang Pavilion ​- one of the classical gardens in Suzhou

Originally built in the Northern Song Dynasty (960 – 1127), Garden of Canglang Pavilion was the former residence of General Jiang Shizhong in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127 – 1279). The gardening technique differs from that applied in the other gardens in Suzhou. One lake lies in front of the garden. The garden mainly offers the views of hills to enjoy.

What to expect at the Canglang Pavilion
Garden of Canglang Pavilion is surrounded by a lake. Hills in the garden are home to several old trees. Pools are situated above the hills. Through the ornamental perforated windows on the double corridors, hills, waters, and pavilions are collected. Walls of the corridors are decorated with 108 types of ornamental perforated windows. Shapes of the windows include squares, fans, Chinese flowering crabapple, vases, pomegranates, lotus, leaves, peaches, sunflowers, plum blossoms, etc. The windows are the most stunning views in the garden.

Standing on the top of a hill, Canglang Pavilion with several old trees aged more than 100 years old around is a great spot to appreciate the panoramic views of the garden.

 

Mingdao Church, is the largest and the main building in the garden. Covering an area of 600 square meters, the worship hall is a two-layer structure. Nowadays, it works as the religious site affiliated to Tian’an Church of Fuzhou.

 

Cuilinglong Pavilion, also called Bamboo Pavilion, has three rooms. Green bamboo forests grow around the building. You’ll find more than 20 species of bamboo across the garden. In history, the pavilion was very popular among writers and artists to create works.

 

Originally built in 1827, Five-Hundred Persons Memorial Hall features more than 500 flat carvings of characters related to history of Suzhou.

Best time to visit the Canglang Pavilion

As the garden is not popular among tourists, you can visit it any time during the opening hours.

 

The best months to visit are from April to October.

 

How to get to the Canglang Pavilion

Several buses pass by the garden. Thus, there are several options.

  • Rent a vehicle to the garden. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus Y2, Y4, Y5, 1, 5, 27, 30, 39, 101, 102, 103, 218, 261, 308 or Bus 309 to the Stop of Gongren Wenhuagong (工人文化宫站). Then walk to the garden.

  • Opening hours: 07:30 – 17:30 (April 21 – October 20); 07:30 – 17:00 (October 21 – April 20)
  • As at 14th October 2020, the entrance pricing to the garden is 15 CNY per person; children between 1.2m tall (1.2m tall included) and 1.4m tall (1.4m tall not included) are charged 7.5 CNY per person; the elder between 60 years old (60 years old included) and 70 years old (70 years old not included) are charged 7.5 CNY per person; the elder above 70 years old (70 years old included) and children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) are free of charge; For the latest pricing, please contact us via email (info@wendyweitours.com)
