In the lunar mid-April, swarms of butterflies dance around the spring. The spring is one of the highlights at the area. The water is blue-and-green. The branches of the old tree create their own reflection in the water.

What to expect at Butterfly Spring Dali
Butterfly Spring Dali shows like a crystal-clear mirror. Between the lunar April and the lunar May, various types of flowers on Yunnong Peak are in blossom, attracting butterflies from other places into the area. Some are as big as a palm while some are as small as bees. Some hang upside down in the tree. They hold one by one down forward the surface of the spring. The acacia tree by the spring in April always comes out. The opened petals in the daytime look like butterflies while in the evening they will close and give out refreshing fragrance. Local Bai people always play the Bai dancing and singing at the bank of the spring.
On the way to Butterfly Spring, you will see fernleaf hedge bamboo and Christmas trees on both sides. The hill behind the spring is home to pine trees, cypress, palms, tea trees, and azalea. If interested, you could visit the butterfly museum where you will see hundreds of butterfly specimens.

The best time to visit Butterfly Spring Dali is from the lunar April 13th to 17th as thousands of butterflies will fly to the spring. Generally speaking, the butterfly show is always held on the lunar April 15th.
How to get to Butterfly Spring Dali
You could take a direct bus outside the western entrance of Dali Old Town to the spring. It takes around 40 minutes drive. Or you could just rent a vehicle to the spring from Dali.
