In 1997, Keren SU, a renowned photographer, painter and adventurer who traveled to Longji Rice Terraces and was impressed by the picturesque landscape during a photography tour, later he spent 8 years to design and build Li’an Lodge. The traditional Chinese tongue and groove techniques were well implemented in the 4 level lodge – this is a wood structure building and the workers didn’t use a single nail during construction. There are only 16 rooms and each room has different theme – all the rooms are decorated with traditional Chinese furniture & art. All these factors made Li’an Lodge unique and different from other hotels in the area and it is also recognized as the photographer’s favorite hotel in Longsheng too.

Opened in 2017, Baike Hotel is recognized as a perfect getaway due to its superior location – it is about 5-10 minutes walking (depend on the walking pace) from Ping’an Village Parking Lot and you can hike around Ping’an Village and access to the viewpoints easily.
From the balcony of the hotel, you can enjoy the gorgeous view of the rice terraces as well as the sunrise/sunset moment. All rooms are well decorated and equipped with the necessaries and the hotel is one of the best choices for those who are traveling with senior citizens. But please note, in the Longji area, hotels are on the mountains (so it is uphill hiking to the hotel), you might need to hire a local to carry the luggage.

Best time to enjoy the Li River Cruise?
It is safer to enjoy the cruise from October to March and in May, July and August as it rains a little in Yangshuo.
How to get to the Li River Cruise?
There is no direct bus from Guilin city to the pier in Guilin. The only option is to rent a vehicle to the pier (the pier for the 3-star cruise is called Mopanshan Pier and the pier for the 4-star and 4.5-star cruises is Zhujiang Pier). For the private rafting, there are piers in Yangdi and Xingping.
Additional Li River Cruise Advice
- As at 4th October 2020, the return cruise from Yangshuo to Yangdi is available & operating. It typically operates between April to October. The same applies for the Yangshuo to Guilin return cruises.
- There are one or two vegetarian dish options on the 4-star and 4.5-star boats. If you are vegetarian, it is suggested that you have lunch at the very first beginning as some meat may drop into the vegetables when other passengers pick it.
- There is a security check at the pier just like that at the airport. It is recommended that you arrive at the pier 30 minutes at least in advance.
- All types of tickets on the 4-star and 4.5 star boats are capped with the same pricing due to the accounting reason. But the actual pricing is higher than that on the ticket.
- For the Private Li River Cruise Rafts, persons over 65 years of age and under 120 cms tall are not permitted on-board.
- Ridge Inn
It takes approx. 30 minutes hiking from Ping’an Village Parking Lot to Ridge Inn as it is situated halfway on the rice terraces area but you can have a great view of the village and surrounding mountains.
Opened in 2017, Ridge Inn is well decorated in a traditional style and fully equipped, and the rooms are clean and spacious. During the stay, you can hike around Ping’an Village, and visit the two viewpoints in the area – the Seven Stars with Moon (approx. 10 minutes hiking) and the Nine Dragons and Five Tigers (approx. 25-30 minutes uphill hiking). Please note, due to its location, you might need to hire a local to carry the luggage when staying at Ridge Inn.

- Longji One Art Hotel
Situated in the middle of Ping’an Village, Longji One Art Hotel is known as a peaceful retreat and admired by people who are looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. It takes approx. 20 minutes uphill walking from Ping’an Village Parking Lot, and it is about 1.5 hrs ride from Guilin Liangjiang International Airport or Guilin North/West Station.

Rice View Villa is surrounded by the peaceful and quiet mountain and rice paddies and the guests enjoy the great view and atmosphere during their stay. It takes approx. 1.5 hrs ride from Guilin Lianjiang International Airport or Guilin North/West Station to the main entrance of Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area – from the entrance, you can take a local public shuttle bus going to Dazhai Village Car Park then hike up to Tiantouzhai Village, or book the pick-up service with the hotel.

- Green Forest Lodge
With 20 minutes walking to the West Hill Music viewpoint (mountain top), Green Forest Lodge becomes one of the most popular hotels around people who’d like to see the sunrise at the Longji Rice Terraces area. Green Forest Lodge is in a 3 level wooden building and has only 10 rooms available but it is fully equipped – you can find the restaurant and shared lounge on the ground level, and the guests rooms are in level 2 & 3.
Located in central Tiantouzhai Village, the hotel is also a great starting point if you’d like to explore the terraces and walk around. It takes approx. 2.5 hrs ride to Guilin city, around 2 hrs ride to Guilin Liangjiang International Airport. Please note, due to its location, there is no shuttle bus and cable car that can bring you from the main entrance to the Tiantouzhai Village Parking Lot, you can either hike up or contact the hotel and pay for the transfer service if needed.
