The Shangri–La Hotel in Guilin is currently considered to be the best 5-Star Hotel within the Guilin city area. Opened in 2009, the hotel offers a view of the Li River and surrounding green gardens with spacious rooms. It’s also great place for families to stay with children as there’s sometimes a mini farm & zoo inside of the hotel and playground for kids to explore.
The Shangri-La Hotel is approximately a 10 x minute drive to the Guilin City Center where travelers can visit the famous Zhengyang Pedestrian Street and the Moon & Sun Pagodas. The Guilin Shangri-La Hotel is located approximately 50 x minutes’ drive from the airport and 30mins from Guilin North Train station.

The Sheraton Guilin Hotel is centrally located within 1 x minute walking distance to the Li River and less than 8 x minutes’ walk to Guilin’s most famous landmark – Elephant Trunk Hill and the Sun & Moon Pagodas at the City Lakes. There’s also Shangshui Snack Street located at the rear of the hotel, which is one of the best places to taste local snacks.
The Sheraton Hotel in Guilin was first built in 1998 and renovated in 2008 – inside, the rooms are still maintained with classic Sheraton standard but other areas of the hotel and facilities are considered by some to be out of date. However, if you are looking for a comfortable hotel with a fantastic central location for you to explore the city and do some shopping, this is a great choice. Don’t forget to go to their lounge for a drink and enjoy the beautiful Li River view from the balcony!

There are more than 70 foreign staffs from 20 countries work here so you won’t need to worry about the language barrier. With a variety of recreational activities and sports facilities, golf, rock climbing in the resort plus the excellent babysitting service in the kids club, it is the best kid friendly hotel to spend a family holiday in Guilin. However, with one hour driving distance from both Guilin and Yangshuo, some of our clients mentioned the location is not so great for sightseeing.

The White House Hotel in Guilin is located within the former residence of Bai Chongxi (a general from Guilin). Located right next to the Banyan Lake area in the bustling downtown area. It is the former residence of the general of Republic of China before 1949. The hotel keeps a large number of antique furniture and antique pianos, phonographs, clocks, etc during the Civil War period.
The White House Hotel features a spa bathtub within all rooms and each room is spacious with breathtaking views of bamboo trees and the Banyan Lake in central Guilin. From Guilin Airport, it takes approximately 40 x minutes to drive to the White House House whilst from Guilin Train Station it’s a 10 x minute driver. Moreover, it’s only a short walking distance from the city center area of Guilin. However, some of our clients mentioned with the central Air Conditioning in the hotel, the minimum room temperature is 26 x degrees and might not be cold enough during the summer nights.

Moreover, it’s approximately 10 x minutes by taxi from Guilin Train Station, 40 x minutes by car from Guilin North/West train Station and 50 x minutes from Guilin Liangjiang Airport. The hotel also offers complimentary Airport/train station pick up service for hotel guests. However, you would need to contact the hotel at least 24 x hours in advance and the pickup service hours are normally from 8am to 10pm.

As the Li River Secluded Hotel only opened in 2018, all the facilities are new and the beds are very comfortable. There are lots of options for breakfast but some of our western clients found it’s too Chinese-flavored for them.

It takes approximately 15 x minutes by taxi to get to Guilin Clock Tower and Zhengyang Walking Street within the city center, 50 x minutes from Guilin Liangjiang Airport and 30 x minutes by taxi from Guilin North Train Station. There’s also one of the best Guilin Rice Noodles shop – LaoDongjiang Guilin Noodles within only 2 x minutes walking distance from the Zen Tea House Seven Star Park Hotel.

The Secret Courtyard Resort Hotel is also approximately 30 x minutes drive from Guilin Liangjiang Airport and approximately 40 x minutes drive from Guilin North/Guilin West Train Stations. The breakfast options can be both Chinese and Western style. The Secret Courtyard Resort Hotel has been rated as one of the best value hotels in Guilin, if you are not looking for a centrally located hotel during your stay in Guilin.

The Aroma Tea House hotel staff are very friendly and speak good English. There’s also normally a free city lakes walking tour available at the hotel if you book in advance/when checking into the hotel. Overall, the Aroma Tea House Hotel offers personalized service in a great location but some of our clients mentioned the rooms are a bit outdated and the breakfast option can be limited for some.

The hotel has the reputation of being a “relaxing green oasis” in Guilin City due to its nice traditional Chinese Garden setting and lovely outdoor pool. You can not drive any vehicle to the hotel and all hotels guests have to take the electric golf cart from the entrance of the Botanic Garden to the Guilin Yi Royal Palace when checking into the hotel. Some of our guests mentioned the room itself is a bit old and the bed mattresses are firm.

The Guilin Heshe Holiday Hotel has more than 20 x rooms, and you can also find nice family rooms here, mainly in the style of “traditional Chinese & Zen spirits”. The rooms are all fairly spacious and bright whilst the hotel staff are normally friendly and helpful. The only negative feedback from our clients is their breakfast is a Chinese style breakfast as opposed to Western breakfast.

From our experience, we suggest hotel guests to write down the Chinese name of the hotel as well as the phone number to avoid getting lost in taxis! From the feedback of our clients, the breakfast of this hotel is basic and the temperature of the water is not stable when taking shower. Also, there’s no lift at the hotel so you would need to carry your luggage to your room up stairs.

The location of this hotel might not be perfect if you want to walk around the center of the city for sightseeing, however, in terms of value for money, this is a great option if you speak some basic Chinese. The receptionist speak basic English but you might still need to practice your language skills with the restaurant and housekeeping staff.

This particular Vienna Hotel predominantly hosts independent Chinese travelers and whilst the staff do speak English, some visitors do find the breakfast buffet being very basic. Please note, it might not be possible to use international credit cards at this hotel.

Generally speaking, lots of our Chinese speaking clients enjoyed their stay in this hotel but some Western clients mentioned the beds are not soft enough and the service of the hotel staff could be improved.

Please note, there are no lifts within the hotel and most of the rooms are on the 3rd floor so people with large luggage, young children or people with mobility problems might find it inconvenient staying at the hotel. However, as this hotel is located in a very local area where not many people speaks English and there are not so many restaurant options nearby so it’s better to have your meals before going back to the hotel unless you prefer to eat at the Chinese restaurant in the hotel. The hotel already has thick sound-proof windows to minimize outside noise and is a good choice for a international brand hotel in a local area with corresponding pricing.

Also, there is a fruit shop supermarket within a walking distance from the Memory Inn Boutique Hotel and also a delicious Guilin Rice Noodles shop with one minute walk away. You might want to print out the address in Chinese as well as hotel’s phone number as some taxi drivers found the hotel is a bit difficult to fine. Also don’t forget to request a quiet room that doesn’t face the street as the neighbourhood could be a bit noisy sometimes (especially for rooms facing the main road).
