What are the Beijing Botanical Gardens?
Located 23 kilometers away from the heart of Beijing City, Beijing Botanical Gardens is situated at the foot of Fragrant Hills. With an area of 400 hectares, Beijing Botanical Gardens is composed of four parts: the plant exhibition area, the scenic spots and historical sites, the nature reserve and the scientific research area.

What to expect at the Beijing Botanical Gardens

Beijing Botanical Gardens offers 10,000 types of plants to admire. The plant exhibition area is divided into three parts: the ornamental plant area, the arboretum and the greenhouse area.

 

The ornamental plant area is composed of special gardens, mainly including Chinese rose garden, peach garden, peony garden, Chinese herbaceous peony garden, lavenderlilacs garden, magnolia garden, Jixiuyuan (bamboo garden), prune tree garden and so on.

Visitors can explore the historical sites, such as Temple of the Reclining Buddha, the Cherry Ditch, the Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall, the Liang Qichao Tomb, and the Longjiao Temple Site. Founded in the Tang Dynasty, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha is a national key cultural relics protection unit with a statue of Sakyamuni in the Yuan Dynasty (1271 – 1368).

 

From March to May, the peach blossom festival is always held in the garden. Visitors can visit the largest Chinese cherry apple garden with the most types of Chinese cherry apple trees there.

 

Best time to visit the Beijing Botanical Gardens

If you are planning to visit Beijing Botanical Gardens for photography purposes, the best time to visit is int the morning during the opening hours. The best months to visit is in spring as the garden always holds the peach blossom festival. You also could explore the garden at any time around the year as there are countless types of plants there.

 

How to get to Beijing Botanical Gardens

There are several buses passing by the Botanical Gardens. Therefore, there are several options.

  • Rent a vehicle to the garden. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus 331, 563, 360, 318, 714 and Bus 698 to the Stop of the South Gate of Beijing Botanical Gardens (北京植物园南门站), or the Stop of Temple of the Reclining Buddha (卧佛寺站) or the Stop of Beijing Botanical Gardens (北京植物园站). Then, walk to the garden.

Additional Beijing Botanical Gardens Travel Advice

  • Opening hours: 06:00 – 21:00 (for gardens in summer); 07:00 – 19:00 (for gardens in winter); 08:30 – 16:30 (for the greenhouse area and the Temple of Reclining Buddha in summer); 08:30 – 16:00 (for the greenhouse area and the Temple of Reclining Buddha in winter); 08:30 – 16:30 (for Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall in summer); 09:00 – 16:030 (for Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall in winter);
  • Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall is closed on Mondays.
  • As at 8th October 2020, entrance pricing for the garden is 5 CNY per person; the elder above 70 years old (70 years old included) are charged 2.5 CNY per person. During the peach blossom festival, entrance pricing for the garden is 10 CNY per person; the elder above 70 years old (70 years old included) are charged 5 CNY per person. Children under 1.2m (1.2m included) are free of charge
  • Entrance pricing for the greenhouse area is 50 CNY per person; the elder above 70 years old (70 years old included) are charged 25 CNY per person. Children under 1.2m (1.2m included) are free of charge
  • Entrance pricing for Temple of Reclining Buddha is 5 CNY per person; the elder above 70 years old (70 years old included) are charged 2.5 CNY per person.

  • Please book the visit to the greenhouse area 7 days ahead of your visit time by phone(If you plan to visit it on 27th September, you should book the visit on 20th September). Up to 500 visitors can visit the area every day.
  • Please visit the garden except the weekend and public holidays as there are always many tourists in the garden.
