What is Zhongliu Village?
“Longji Terraced Fields" of Longsheng Country is in Guangxi, Guilin. It’s a photographer’s paradise. Its rice terraces are scattered all over with numerous small villages though it has three major villages: the Pingan Village, the Dazhai Village and the Ancient Zhuang Village. The place has retained its cultural and rural traditions in this modern age. An ideal place to cherish rural tranquility and solitude, it is great for walking and hiking. One terrific hike is the hike to Zhongliu village.
Zhongliu Village is located about 10 km between Ping'an and Dazai. It is an ancient rustic village of arched stone bridges, dilapidated stables and stilted cottages symmetrically enclosed by terraces, crags and waterfalls. Unlike Dazai, which has hundreds of tourists each year, Zhongliu had none apart from few hikers taking rest here. The village has just four houses with a total population of thirteen. They are the Yao people who are extremely hospitable and offer their home cooked food to anyone hungry. Often the food served is a spread of scented sticky rice baked in bamboo over an open fire, greens, salted meat and Longji tea or watery rice wine. Here you witness the raw rural life intact with people carrying on with their own life. You also get enlightened here on how the rural people manage bad waste here. It’s the life on the misty mountaintop, with time standing still for the past 700 hundred years.
