What is the Shitoucheng Stone Village?
Shitoucheng means Stone Town and it is called so because of the numerous stone buildings in the village that have no cement. The village is 25 km north of Yangshuo and spans just 10 km. Just 3 km from the foot of the mountain to the top, the road winds its way by the mountain sides to the West Gate of Shitoucheng.
Shitoucheng village is best explored by foot as the terrain is a little rough; and the narrow, rocky and even muddy path rises and falls through verdant orange groves and paddy fields. One easily basks in the well preserved rural villages, and the pure customs. It was once a garrison town and its 4 main entrances and 18 inner gates are still intact. There is no record of when and why it was built. The gate of the wall is arch.
