What is the Guangxi Museum of Nationalities?
Located in Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi, Guangxi Museum of Nationalities is a theme museum aimed at collecting, studying and exhibiting the traditional cultures of the twelve nationalities which have inhabitated Guangxi from ancient times including Zhuang, Yao, Miao and Dong ethnic minorities. The Guangxi Museum of Nationalities covers an area of approximately 130 acres along with another 60 acres of outdoor exhibition garden of traditional folk residences, which is attached to the museum.
The building is designed in the shape of a bronze drum, which is a cultural symbol of Guangxi minorities. The whole building looks like a roc spreading its wings. Retaining distinctive styles of Guangxi minorities, the building is equipped with a high-tech movie hall, a multi-purpose hall, a heritage specimen observing room, special libraries, an on-line museum, a social collection room, etc. Noteworthy is its biggest collection of 331 bronze drums in the world, including the "King of bronze Drums", which is the largest ancient bronze drum ever found in the world. It’s a breathtaking ethnic cultural oasis with a wealth of ethnic attires, silver ornaments, batik handicrafts, embroidery works, labor tools, masks and architecture are presented artistically. The museum adopts both dynamic and static methods to display, combining the wording, materials, live-scene, and pictures. It truly is a one-stop destination to absorb authentic Chinese culture.
